Sammy's Movie Review: Sex and the City
How Do I Know If You Really Love Me?
Sammy
Sex and the City (SATC) accordingly has been the most anticipated movie before it shows in the theater since Gone With the Wind.
As a hard-core SATC fan, I couldn't wait to go to the movies to see the film. It was like visiting some of your dearest friends that you haven't seen in years. You are just dying to know how they are doing.
Just because you miss them so much, you are going to feel so happy no matter what. That's why I am not going to judge SATC as a movie here. One thing I have to point out though. Whenever you give those talented director a big budget to make a movie, what do they do? They indulge themself on the costumes and the props in the movie. Ang Lee is one in Lust, Caution. And Michael Patrick King is another. Throughout the movie, you see King got carried away on the materialism with the name brand accessories and the over-the-top fashion shows. And they are there without a purpose, REALLY!
The movie is really a Sex-and-the-City-gone-Desperate-Housewives story. The girls all found true love at the end of the TV series. They all got their happily-ever-after endings. For the movie's plot, the lives of these 40 something gels in thier steady relationships seem to be a little too stale for a regular SATC episode. But after turning desperate housewives, the SATC movie has a story to tell.
This is a familiar story that is hid in the hearts of all regular married people:
How do I know you really love me?
Samantha & Smith
Now they live in L.A. Samantha is now monogamous but Smith, as a big star, is too busy to have sex nowadays. On top of the crisis, Samantha is turning 50. The closest thing to sex that she can find is a pet dog who likes to fuck everything he sees. The Samantha Jones's spirit kept in the movie is by a dog!
So desperate Samantha said, "It is not that I don't love you any more. I just love myself more!"
Charlotte & Harry
They are happily married with their adopted Chinese daughter, Lily. Charlotte got pregnant later in the movie.
Desperate Charlotte said, "This is Mexico, so I can't eat or drink anything."
When Charlotte accidentally took some of the shower water, she had diarrhea and pooped her pants. (And that's the highlight of her part of the story. Actually, that's the highlight of the movie too!)
Miranda and Steve
They lived in Brooklyn with their son, Brady. Desperate Miranda is always the real woman in the show, who has to work, raise her kid and fight with her man. So she has been so busy that she hasn't had time to have sex in 6 months. She hasn't even had her bikini-wax!
Steve was so sex-deprived and had sex with some woman. Nice guy Steve went home to her and came clean. Of course bitch Miranda right away moved out of their house and cut him off from her life.
Desperate Miranda said, "It is the trust that you broke. How can I ever trust you again?"
Desperate Steve said, "The way you cut me off from your life. How do I know if you really love me?"
Carrie and Big
They are happily in love and looking for an apartment together. So Carrie complains that she will have to keep her apartment because she doesn't have any rights to the gorgeous apartment. Big asks Carrie, "Do you want to get married? I want you."
Then Carrie let the wedding get bigger than Big. Then Big got the cold feet before the wedding.
Desperate Big said to the answering machine, "How do I know it is just us? I need to talk to you or I can't do it."
Desperate Carrie ran into Big after he has just dumped her at the alter, "I KNEW YOU WERE GOING TO DO THIS TO ME."

So they are all desperate. That's what happen when people turn 40!
By the way, Desperate Housewives is a much better show comparing to this movie.
